How Faith in God Can Help in the Recovery of Patients

Do you believe in God?

Well, researchers say that you should. There is more to faith than spirituality; having faith in God is actually proven to have mental and physical benefits.

The recent research on the ‘biology of belief’ opened up a whole new arena. It explored the way how our cells receive and process information and that radically changed the basic understanding of life and also offered an explanation for the much talked ‘about law of attraction.

This research showed that it’s not the genes or the DNA that control our biology. This study revealed that it is the energy, the positive or negative thoughts that control our DNA. So, changing the cell’s environment can change cell behavior and genetic characteristics.

What research says?

Several studies have shown that having faith in God has been associated with better health, greater longevity, better-coping skills, and less anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts. Research also shows that having faith in God can help one cope and recover from terminal illnesses.

How having faith in God helps in the recovery of patients?

Having faith has proven mental benefits.

There is ample research that proves the mental health benefits of praying and faith in God. Having faith in God helps boost connectedness, hope, optimism, trust, and purpose. It also improves compassion, forgiveness, and gratitude. All of these are proven to boost mental health.

Studies also found that having strong faith in God is a great way to combat stress. People who have faith in God tend to experience less stress and anxiety, even under stressful circumstances. This is because of the positivity associated with faith in God which instills the belief that everything will work out well in the end!

Having faith in God can help in the process of healing

Research has shown that having faith in God can help in getting through tough phases of life. It particularly helps in dealing with chronic illnesses. There are multiple studies and testimonies that proved to have faith in God can help in coping with stress and recovery.

A study examined the importance of faith in cancer care. It concluded that if the patient is religious, then including spirituality in the process of treatment can result in a better prognosis and a better satisfaction rate. Faith and spirituality are associated with increased coping, greater resilience to stress, an optimistic outlook, greater perceived social support, and lower levels of anxiety

Faith helps in finding a sense of purpose

Research says that having a sense of purpose is associated with better health and greater longevity. The Japanese philosophy of Ikigai is widely studied and many researchers now agree that having a sense of purpose can play a role in faster healing and better health choices.

A study examined the response of patients who underwent treatment programs with a focus on spirituality. And the results revealed that having a sense of faith aided in their recovery. Also, many researchers are now probing into the workings of spiritual healers. In ancient times, spiritual healers could cure people based on this system of faith. And incorporating spirituality into modern treatment might result in an improved prognosis.

How Can You Incorporate Faith into Your Recovery?

  • While our religion may differ, faith remains ingrained.
  • Spirituality can be practiced through prayers which means saying an affirmation or emitting the energy of our thoughts through words. The health benefits of saying a prayer are well-established.
  • Chanting mantras or reading religious books can also help in connecting and emitting positive energies.
  • Practicing kindness and gratefulness are also very important tools for practicing spirituality.

Your Takeaway!

Several studies have found that patients often wish their doctors to acknowledge their spiritual needs and include them as a part of their treatment. In other words, spirituality can be an important tool in treating patients suffering from chronic illness, grief, and loss. If physicians can address their spiritual needs and combine the physical, emotional, and spiritual requirements in the treatment plan then this could possibly result in better results.

However, more research is needed to understand the role of spirituality in therapeutic healing. But saying a little prayer can never harm!
