Wash your fruits and vegetables with the new Nutriwash!

Ayurveda has spoken about the right foods and the right way to eat them in great detail. And I have often shared these deets with you through my blogs. But there is one more thing that Ayurveda stresses on and that’s ‘hygiene’. So, in this blog, I bring you all you need to know about the right way to wash your fruits and vegetables!

In ancient times, life was much simpler.

Artificial pesticides and preservatives were not there. And the quotient of pollution was very low. Thus, there was no such need for special cleansers to wash off toxins from your veggies. Our ancestors used clean water to solve the purpose. And Ayurveda recommends hot water washing of veggies for better cleaning!

However, today the scene is completely different.

Pesticides and preservatives are a common scene. Pollution is breaking the radar. Air, water and the soil, all are intoxicated to an unacceptable limit. As such, washing the vegetables and fruits right has become a new step to healthy eating.

But it took a pandemic to bring about this big change from books to practice!

The need for sanitizing your vegetables and fruits

This pandemic has brought back the lost sense of healthy living.

It was always important to sanitize the fruits and vegetables before eating. There can be a host of pathogens and toxins on the surface along with mud and dirt. But people never cared so much about cleaning the veggies, unless the fear of the virus took over.

The outbreak of coronavirus made people more serious about sanitizing the items. While most people stick to washing with water, some go overboard with soap washing or using hand sanitizers on the veggies.

No, I am not joking!

People are actually washing vegetables with Surf and Vim bar.

And some are sanitizing with the hand sanitizers.

Though these ways are not the right way, it is really important to sanitize the fruits and vegetables. Many people pick them at the fruit seller’s stall. And not to forget the incidents of the fruit tripping off the pyramid. Even a passer-by could spit the virus through cough and sneeze.

Thus, don’t skip the step of washing your fruits and vegetables.

The woes of washing your vegetables

In the last few months, many of my patients have shared that most of their time now go in washing the vegetables. It has become a pain in the daily routine.

One of my patients remarked, ‘My hands are eroding washing the dishes and the veggies. This pandemic is making me live the worst nightmare.

Another young girl visited my clinic, she too shared the woe. ‘I hated studies, and I never thought I would miss my books. But then this pandemic gave me a glimpse of my likely future. When mom was dividing jobs, as the maid left, I took up the veggie department. Cleaning, cutting and keeping them. It sounds so easy, but now all my time goes in washing the veggies.’

Even the men are not spared. After all the basic human necessities remain the same for both genders. ‘As if cooking and cleaning were not enough of a headache that now we have to take special caution for sanitizing the vegetables. I almost eat Surf excel in my lunch and dinner.’

And this is a common one!

They clean the veggies in surf or soap and the smell and taste of the powder remain in the food.

Bizarre ways of vegetable cleaning – A strict ‘no-no’

Some people even go one step further. I didn’t know what to say when my patient shared his way of cleaning vegetables. ‘It’s such a nuisance to wash, clean, and dry the vegetables every day. I just spray my hand sanitizer. Any way we peel most vegetables and fruits before eating’.

I was speechless.

I replied, ‘Sir, Hand Sanitizers are not at all recommended for fruits and vegetables. Most sanitizers are ineffective in killing the virus on the surface of the vegetables and fruits. Plus, ingestion of sanitizer can cause toxic effects.

Fast came his reply, ‘Sir these are all marketing gimmicks. If the sanitizer can kill the virus in my hands then it can kill it on the veggies too.’

I explained to him how sanitizer actually works and the ill-effects of the sanitizers when ingested! He was shocked to know the facts. I am sure he is never going to repeat this grave mistake.

How to wash your vegetables and fruits right?

The simplest way to clean the vegetables is to wash them in warm water.

But special times need special care. This tip was enough before the outbreak of COVID-19. But post COVID-19, we need to be extra equipped to fight the virus. That’s why I recommend Nutrinorm Wellness to my patients for a natural and herbal veggie wash.

Nutrinorm Wellness is an Indian brand in the personal care range. There are many other brands claiming the same effects, but it’s my attempt to go ‘vocal for local’. And that’s one of the many reasons why I personally use and recommend this sanitizer for fruits and vegetable wash.

There is another important reason why I am recommending this particular veggie wash. It’s paraben-free, chemical-free, soap-free and made from natural ingredients. Nutrinorm fruits and veggie wash washes off any pesticide residues, synthetic wax coating. It kills the innumerable pathogens including Coronavirus.

It contains salt and Baking soda which effectively kill germs and sanitize fruits and veggies. Plus, another impressive thing about this brand is that it’s completely environment-friendly. The packs are fully bio-degradable and the content is 100% safe!

My words of advice

Precaution is better than cure!

So, wash your vegetables and fruits before taking them to the kitchen could be one important step in stopping the spread. These vendors come in contact with many people throughout the day. Many of whom can be undetected, asymptomatic corona positive. As such they become super spreader.

Thus, it is very important to take proper caution for your and your family’s safety!

It is a highly researched and approved formulation that we trust for our family. And that’s why we advise it to the extended family of people we come across.
