Building Immunity: The Ultimate Weapon Against Coronavirus

A state of panic is spread across the globe. The recent outbreak of coronavirus has jolted the world. No prevention no cures! As such, the only axe to ace is to use your immunity against coronavirus.

By the minute the spread is widening and death tolls rising.

World Health Organization announced Covid-19 as a global public health emergency in January.

And this is sending chills down the spine! 

People are praying for precautions. Fanatically looking for solutions!

In this position of plight, Ayurveda speaks of simple solutions that offer the utmost prevention.

But before discussing the preventives or cure, let us take a few minutes to understand what is a coronavirus.

What is coronavirus?

Coronavirus is a member of a big family that can cause serious sickness. 

Coronavirus is not new. But COVID-19 is! 

COVAD-19 is caused by a new type of coronavirus. It is encountered for the first time in humans.

Previous strands of coronaviruses have caused MERS and SARs.

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome and Severe acute respiratory syndrome.

COVAD-19 too is related to respiratory issues. It impairs the respiratory system.

It may even cause the lungs to stop!

People who have pre-existing problems or weak immune systems are at a high risk of organ failure leading to death.

How does coronavirus spread?

Coronavirus can transmit through saliva. Coughing, sneezing and even spitting can pass the virus.

Further, touching and shaking hands with an infected person can pass the virus. This is one of the most common ways this virus spreads!

Also, touching an infected object can make the virus crawl on your hands. Touching the nose, eyes, or mouth with an infected hand can make a healthy person sick.

3 Things to know

  1. Firstly, the virus lives on the hands for 10 minutes.
  2. Secondly, It can live on fabric for 9 hours.
  3. Thirdly, Coronavirus can also survive in air or any other surface.

So, basically its no more human contact and social distancing that will protect you. You need to be caution while touching any outside thing!!! From door knobs to table tops, plastic to steel everything can carry the virus.

Symptoms of Coronavirus

The usual symptoms of coronavirus are – 

  • Fever.
  • Fatigue 
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Breathing difficulty 
  • Bronchitis
  • Pneumonia. 

These symptoms may appear between 2 to 14 days of infection. So, it is very crucial to practice prevention even if the symptoms are not visible!

Coronavirus can also cause more severe cases in people with weak immunity. 

The infection can result in pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death. 

The severity of COVID-19 symptoms can range from mild to severe. It is advised to contact the doctor immediately if these symptoms show! 

The stakes are high

Coronavirus is a serious death threat.

But not all are at equal risk.

While some fight with great vigour others succumbs to the circumstances.

Elders, pregnant ladies and those with a weak immune system are at a higher risk. Also, people who are suffering from some kind of disease need to be more cautious. 

People who smoke have got one more reason to quit. As researchers say, smokers are at high risk of coronavirus infection

Survey shows that senior citizens with weak immune systems are at highest risk. A great portion of the death toll is occupied by this category. 

Immunity against coronavirus cruelty

Coronavirus is highly contagious. It is spreading at a rapid pace.

But not all that are infected are witnessing the same fate!

Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of immunity to win this battle against coronavirus.

The immune system is the body’s natural defence. It protects the body against invasion by an infective agent such as coronavirus.

If the immune system is strong then it can fight this fearful disease naturally.

Immunity against coronavirus: How it works?

The immune system is the body’s natural defence system. It stands against harmful pathogens and prevents the occurrence of diseases. 

The immune system is primarily responsible for:

  • Identifying pathogens and disease-causing germs.
  • Removing intruders from the system. This includes viruses, parasites, bacteria, or fungi.
  • Developing antibodies to fight the invader.
  • To kill or neutralize harmful substances that enter the body.
  • To combat major changes within the body, like cancer cells or tumour formation.
  • The immune system takes charge when it recognizes antigens, toxins or other foreign substances.

Ayurveda closely connects immunity to Ojas. Ojas means health, vigour, vitality, and the ability to fend off diseases.  This is quite similar to what immunity is!

Ojas or immunity both depend on robust Agni. 

Both of these flourishes when the body is in tune with a rhythmic daily routine. Also, high nutrition and adequate sleep help to strengthen ojas. Further managing stress and enjoying healthy relationships helps improving your immunity. Moreover, research says, embracing happiness strengthens the immune system.

What impairs your immunity? 

  1. Stress.
  2. Worry, anxiety, anger, jealousy, excessive pride and all negative feelings.
  3. Shock and trauma.
  4. Lack of rest, sleep and insomnia.
  5. Excessive travel, multitasking and overuse of technology.
  6. Lack of nutrition.
  7. Excessive sexual release
  8. Smoking, excessive alcohol, addictions, recreational drugs

How can you increase your immunity naturally?

  • Tune your body to nature’s clock.
  • Yogasana, pranayama, meditation. 
  • Exercise every day.
  • Fill the heart with happiness
  • Design a nutritious diet. 
  • Prioritize your sleep and rest.
  • Manage your sexual energy.
  • Use Ayurvedic herbs and rasayanas like chyavanaprasha.
  • Take natural and herbal immune boosters.
  • Soak some sunshine to get Vitamin D.
  • Hydration helps in strengthening the immune system.

Ways to avoid coronavirus infection?

Other than a strong immune system, little precautions can help fight the disease with ease:

  1. Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.
  2. Avoid close contact with sick people.
  3. Avoid handshake go for the traditional Namaste.
  4. Clean and disinfect your surroundings.
  5. Cover your face when you cough or sneeze.
  6. Use a mask.
  7. Avoid public gatherings.
  8. Ask your office for work from home.
  9. Proper sleep improves your immunity.
  10. Gargle with warm water and salt.
  11. And, drink warm water more frequently.

Ayurveda hails the importance of immunity. Strong immunity is essential to prevent cold and flu. It is also the most potent weapon against cancer. The importance of immunity is often overlooked. But even against the deadliest virus, it is your immunity that comes to aid!
