Are you one of those persons who keep planning about every next scenario of your life? Do you keep worrying about the possible troubles that await you in the future? Are you that student who always sits and dreams of the result day wasting his precious time to prepare for the exams?  Are you that person who fails an interview just because of the nerve and not because of insufficient preparation? Then this blog is for you! In this blog I will be handing out some of the most practical tips on how to stop overthinking!

Studies say that overthinking can manifest into physical and mental illness. This is something that our Vedic literature have also mentioned – overthinking is a joykill! Overthinking can lead to isolation, depression, loss of appetite, indigestion, sleeplessness, and the list gets scarier!

Four 1-minute steps to stop overthinking

1) Overthinking will not solve your problem instead it will just worsen your mental and physical health. Understand this. Observe how your worry has stressed the cells in your body. Take a deep breath. Relax. Think of God in whatever form and name. Think of the good things you have. Promise to yourself that you will keep things simple

2) Accept your problem and face it. All problems that we face are our own making, it comes as a result of our laziness or some action that we have performed the duty we failed to perform in the past. So be ready to face the problem head-on. You created it, you are going to face it and that will not be the end of the world even if you fail at it.

3) Making mistakes, being mocked upon, Insulted in front of fellow human beings and feeling embarrassed is all normal. Keep in mind that all of this creation of God. You are also god so are the ones who are taunting you, don’t fear public judgement. The Supreme Lord will judge everyone. You surrender to him, accept bad phases as passing clouds and stay happy.

4) Live in the present. Overthinking normally happens when you are always thinking about something that is yet to happen and might never happen or thinking about something that has already happened. The past is gone and cannot be changed. The future is yet to happen and no point overindulging, only the present is in your hands. Do the best in your present don’t set undoable targets. Understand your limits, and live life to your limits joyously. Keep in mind God has a different plan for each one of us and there is no escape from it, all we can do is embrace everything that comes our way with content.

Live in the moment

Live in the present means to focus on what you can do now. A popular spiritual seer from ISKCON, Gaur Gopal Das put it this way “If you have a problem and you have a solution for it, then why worry?  Similar if you have a problem and do not have a solution for it, then what more can you do? So stop thinking about it, leave it to Krishna (God) and focus on other things in life.” This problem of overthinking happens largely because we worry. We get fully immersed in our problems and continuously sit worrying and overthinking about it.

We have to realize that overthinking about a problem has never solved it for anybody. All our problems will be solved eventually. God will find a way to help you pay your bills, he will help you get your new home but first and foremost you must stop thinking about your problems in a negative way.

Overthinking leads to negative thoughts. Negative thoughts lead to worry. Worry leads to stress. Stress leads to physical diseases. Diseases will suck the life out of your body.

Instead, keep life simple. Meditate regularly. Perform Yoga. Live a life of surrender to the divineness and a life of gratitude to all that you have, health and abundance will flow in your heart.
