Neem Oil for Lice | How Neem Oil helps in Lice Infestation

Scratching the head every other minute is definitely something no one could ever enjoy! Lice infestation is the most annoying menace that is accompanied by itching, distraction and frustration. These stubborn bloodsucking parasites are notoriously difficult to get rid of due to the nature of their life cycle and the minute size of the eggs. 

The problem of lice is very common among the kids.  Your hair care regime hardly matters as anyone can get head lice, regardless of personal hygiene. These little suckers can crawl on to anyone when they come in contact with people who are carrying these insects.

Though lice aren’t dangerous they undoubtedly snatch away the peace of mind. The continuous irritation and itch on the scalp lead to infection, hair fall, stress and anxiety. It’s best to treat head lice quickly once they’re found because they can multiply quickly and spread easily from person to person.

The problem of lice infestation dates back to many centuries probably to the eve of human civilization and in this course of time, many remedies were found to combat these annoying critters. But of all the remedies nothing could beat the efficacy of neem oil in killing these bloodsuckers.

Neem Oil in Lice Infestation

Neem oil has been used since aeons for treating lice infestations. Ayurveda hails the use of neem oil for its efficacy in treating gruesome conditions like dandruff and lice. Blessed with many therapeutic properties, this amazing lubricant offers immense healing and soothing effects on the human body. This marvellous oil also helps with scalp irritation and bruising whilst nourishing the tender strands and adding shine and softness to the tresses.

How does it help?

  • Neem oil is enthroned with anti-parasitic qualities attributed to the Azadirachtin disrupt the growth and reproduction of lice eventually forcing them to death. 
  • Lice chew on the scalp, and when it is coated in neem oil, they tend to swallow the oil which blocks their swallowing mechanism, causing them to choke on neem oil and slowly starve to death. 
  • It not only kills the lice at every stage of their life cycle but also helps with alleviating many of the side effects associated with a lice infestation, especially itchiness and irritation of the scalp.
  • It also inhibits the swallowing system of lice, thus reducing their appetite to the point of starvation. 
  • The pungent odour of neem oil is strongly disliked by lice, thus keep them away from crawling into your head. 
  • This ethereal oil works amazing well as a preventive treatment.

How to Use Neem Oil for Lice

  • Gently massage the scalp with neem oil for a few minutes and comb through the hair to remove the lice or nits. 
  • Wrap the hair with a shower cap and leave it for an hour. 
  • Wash off the hair with a natural shampoo.

Lice are extremely stubborn and can survive even under the harshest conditions. So it is recommended to follow the routine for a few weeks to ensure that every bit of the parasitic bloodsuckers are dead and there is no way left for a recurrence. Neem oil for lice may work wonders but only if you are regular and consistent in its usage.
