I often wonder how marriage is overrated in India. And so is being fair and spotless. It is absolutely fine for one to wish for that radiant angelic beauty. But this wish should not be so overpowering. Here is a case study of Black Neck – a young woman bugged by the lines!

Black Neck – A clinical case

When 27-year-old Aditi walked into my clinic I hardly noticed the black pigmentation on her neck. What I saw was a dull, lifeless girl with a head full of worries. She was fidgeting, touching her neck often, trying to cover it with her dupatta.

I asked her what was her issue. She parted her dupatta and showed me the dark patches in her neck. She told me that she was working as an HR which is all about one’s appearance and persona.

The collared shirts have always come to her rescue. It conceals her neck and its pigmentation. But now with her marriage in the cards, she had to get rid of these dark patches.

She said she never wears golden neckpieces because the shimmering gold highlights her dark neck. But how can she avoid wearing gold in her own marriage?

Medical reasons for black neck

I checked her medical records, she neither had hypothyroidism nor was she suffering from any other disease. It was a simple case of hyperpigmentation that was making her life complicated.

She set her focus only on her flaws. That’s why even the microscopic issues became the centre of her existence that blurred all her happiness and achievements.

I first told her that she would make a beautiful bride and that she was much more than a girl with a dark neck. She was educated, smart, and independent and that’s what people see when they meet her.
