What is Atopic Dermatitis?

Atopic dermatitis is a condition that makes the skin red and itchy. It’s common in children but can occur at any age. It is a type of skin disorder that accompanies asthma or hay fever and it may appear during adulthood even. Some patients may experience a prolonged battle with various ups and downs, making the skin dry and irritable. However, the skin tends to improve and the rashes clear up entirely over a period of time.

Ayurvedic treatment for Atopic Dermatitis

Ayurveda elaborates about seven layers of skin and pinpoints that skin acts as an external pathway of disease that is very vulnerable to toxins carried by rasa and rakta dhatus during the prasara stage of the disease, accounting for the common nature of skin inflammations. Ayurveda confirms that atopic dermatitis is due to a hypersensitive reaction in bahya marga, thus leading to long term skin inflammation which creates itchy and scaly skin. This accurate knowledge and diagnosis help in the efficacy of the treatment.

Home remedies you can try:

  • Use a moisturizer or castor oil or organic butter all over the body while your skin is still damp from a bath or shower.
  • Cover the itchy area if you can’t keep from scratching it.
  • Choose mild soaps without dyes or perfumes.

A word of advice:

  • Try to keep away from excessive sweating.
  • Take a light diet.
  • Avoid allergenic foodstuffs like excessive salt, tea, coffee, alcohol, milk, eggs, cheese, fish, sugar, hot spices, and food additives.
  • Stay away from wool clothes and blankets.
  • Avoid extremes of climate. Moderate temperature, with fresh air and the mild sun, is usually beneficial.

Mr. MURALI – 45 years.

My seven-year-old son suffered from Atopic Dermatitis since childhood. I had tried many remedies. The steroids provided a temporary solution but there was no permanent solution. I came to know about Dr. Brahmanand Nayak through a common friend. I consulted him and was impressed with the way he spoke to me and diagnosed the actual issue. I took the treatment he provided. It’s been 2 years now and I am seeing significant improvement in my son’s condition, especially in itching, inflammation and skin flaking there is a significant improvement. I hope to see further improvement in the coming months.
